Who We Are
Supporting the prepared environment through language and culture.
Lula’s Little House was created to support Montessori environments when essential materials , especially in language and culture, are missing or inaccessible.
This platform exists to help teachers access, request, and use materials that allow children to connect meaningfully with language and the world around them.
Why Language and Culture Matter
Language gives children a way to understand their place in the world.
In many Montessori environments, math materials are readily available. Language and culture, however, are often the most affected areas, particularly in Spanish.
When these materials are missing, children lose opportunities to:
-
Connect words to real experiences
-
Understand how language functions beyond decoding
-
Relate classroom work to their own time, place, and culture
Language is not only about learning how to read. It is how children organize thought, make meaning, and understand their reality.
Maria Montessori reminds us that the environment must reflect the time and culture of the child. When this connection is weakened, the child’s understanding of the world becomes incomplete.
Why This Platform Exists
When these materials are present, children are not only learning , they are recognizing themselves in the environment.
As a Montessori guide working in Dallas, Texas, I saw this need repeatedly, across classrooms, schools, and communities.
Teachers value language and cultural work deeply, yet often lack:
-
Time to design and prepare materials
-
Access to materials in the child’s home language
-
Support in maintaining rich, evolving shelves
Lula’s Little House was created to meet this need.
This platform allows teachers to:
-
Access ready-to-use Montessori materials
-
Share wishlists so families and communities can support the environment
-
Request materials tailored to their classroom needs
-
Plan intentionally for language and cultural experiences
Most materials are currently offered as PDFs, allowing guides to prepare them according to their environment. In time, this work will expand to include physical materials, always with the same intention and respect for Montessori principles.
Supporting the Adult, Serving the Child
The materials shared through Lula’s Little House were developed through direct use in Montessori environments and refined through observation and practice.
Each material follows the parameters of Montessori language lessons: a clear purpose, isolation of one difficulty, and a thoughtful sequence that supports the child’s gradual understanding. Particular care has been taken in Spanish, where precision in structure and function is essential and cannot be approached in the same way as English.
These materials are grounded in formal Montessori training and in careful study of lesson sequences, language functions, and presentation guidelines. They are not created to add to the method, but to support it, offering the guide materials that are ready, precise, and faithful to the intention of the lesson.
By supporting the adult with materials prepared in this way, the environment can remain rich, relevant, and responsive, allowing the child to encounter language as meaningful, connected, and alive.
Our Guiding Principles
At Lula’s Little House, we believe:
-
Language is essential to understanding the world
-
Decoding is only one part of literacy
-
Culture gives language meaning and relevance
-
Access and support strengthen the prepared environment
Every material is created with intention and respect for the absorbent mind of the child.
